Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to know about game uniforms?
All players at the 10U level and above will play in matching game uniforms (jersey and socks) that were purchased or will be purchased (and customized!) for their personal use.
If your player acquired a new jersey already, no further action is needed. If your player is moving up to 10U or outgrew their jersey, please continue to read.
The expected cost is around $130 for the complete set (jersey + 2 pairs of socks). Jerseys are reversible (for use at both home and away games) and customized with your player's last name and a chosen number! These jerseys will be used by MAHA teams every year so players can continue wearing their set as long as it continues to fit. We offer financial assistance for those families who qualify.
More information on the jersey ordering process can be found here.
What equipment do I need?
The following equipment is mandatory for all players:
- Skates
- Helmet with protective face guard and mouth guard
- Neck guards

What is the organization's policy on playing time?
MAHA believes that hockey players get better by playing: in practices and in games.
At all levels, coaches will make their best effort to grant equal ice time to all players over the course of the season, but have discretion in situations that warrant variation from this rule, which include a player's attendance record, behavior, and, in rare cases, limited game situations where the team can benefit from having certain players on the ice, e.g. last minutes of a tight state tournament game.
If a player or family member has any concerns or questions about playing time, MAHA encourages you to speak with your team's coach and/or reach out to the MAHA Director of Coaching.
Do you have boys and girls teams?
All of our teams are co-ed and will welcome all players with open arms. (We do not have boys-only teams.) Having said that, we are also excited to field an all female travel hockey team for players born in 2016 & 2017. Registered players will commit to this team and should not double roster on a coed youth team to avoid scheduling conflicts.
What is a 8U Jam Mite?
All players born in 2018 & after are 8U Mites. Jam Mites includes Mites with a 2018 birth year and/or returning 2019 Mites who are ready to be skating with our travel program. Not sure if your player is ready for Jams? Reach out to Coach Duncan — he’s happy to help.
What entry level programs do you offer?
We will run a Learn to Skate Session in addition to the Learn to Play Program (in cooperation with the Boston Bruins, October/November)—both programs are co-ed. We will also have a Girls Try Hockey event; please stay tuned for details!
What are the payment options?
We listened to our families who asked for more flexibility with registration payments. You may now pay in whole or spread the fees out over 5 monthly payments. Payment will be accepted by credit card (small fee) or electronic check (have a check ready to copy your account number).
